Family: Father was a vampire, mother was a human hopelessly in love with him. She gave birth to his child, the dhampir Rhea, at which point he turned on her, taking Rhea and her mother away from their home. Her mother was subjected to all of his sadistic impulses, and kept around as little more than a slave to raise the child. Rhea has since seen enough to learn that not all vampires are like that.

She's travelled across much of the world, though she's never been to Africa, which is why she's there now. She's currently seeking training in the use of magic, which she has long known she has had, but has neglected to train until now. She fought for the Shadow Court, working for Jaquelyn de Vere at the time, during the Unveiling Conflict. Around the same time, her lover died attacking Barbazul on the orders of a foolish superior. This strained her friendship with Barbazul, and she left Jaquelyn's service not long after. She hasn't shown interest in finding any other lover since his death.
